Bayern fans apologise to Robben

FC Bayern Munich notes with astonishment, irritation and disappointment the whistling by fans directed at Arjen Robben during the friendly between FC Bayern and the Netherlands on the evening of Tuesday 22nd May.

“Some fans were apparently disappointed that, three days after our defeat in the Champions League final, Arjen did not play in an FC Bayern shirt, but only for the Dutch national team,“ commented Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “However, that gives nobody the right to jeer and boo our players. Just like all the other players, fans and friends of FC Bayern, Arjen Robben is deeply disappointed and hurt by the unlucky and undeserved defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final in a penalty shootout. However, the style of FC Bayern and their fans is to reach out and help someone who is down, as shown by the majority of the 33,000 crowd on Tuesday night, who lifted Arjen Robben’s spirits by singing his praises.”

“We have received a lot of reaction from our fans this morning,” Rummenigge continued, “apologising to Arjen Robben on behalf of those who jeered and booed.”

FC Bayern Munich wishes Arjen Robben a good and successful EURO 2012 and is looking forward to welcoming him back to the Bayern family in July.

The fact that Drogba and Platini tried to cheer me up was nice, but it’s worth nothing, I wanted that cup but it didn’t happen.
Arjen Robben
I can’t describe how I feel with words, but it’s been a terrible night, two or three times you feel you have the cup in your hands [during the match] but at the end you stand with nothing.

This is a unique chance. You never know whether you will ever make it to the final of the Champions League again. We have to make it happen now.
Arjen Robben
He’s a very important player for us. It’s important we work well as a team. Everything has to be right, from our organisation to our passion. If that works out, a player like Franck can decide a match, thanks to his individual quality. It’s good we have him on board. It means our forward line is at full strength.
Arjen Robben about Franck Ribéry
We’ve shown we’re one of the best teams in Europe, hopefully, by Saturday night, we can say we’re the best.
Arjen Robben
It’s an honour to be part of this. There’s no other topic of conversation in the town. There are posters everywhere, and there’s news of nothing else on radio and TV. It’s a fantastic feeling.
Arjen Robben
It’s the biggest game of the season for all of us. We’ve put last Saturday behind us, we’re ready, and we’re mentally well-prepared because there’s only one more prize up for grabs this season.
Arjen Robben
Provided I don’t have a 40 degree fever on Saturday, I’ll play – that’s for certain!
Arjen Robben {he has a cold}
We must try to cope with Bayern Munich’s strengths, it’s not just about Ribery and Robben, as you can talk about plenty of their players. They are also very strong as a team and we have to see how we can hurt them, especially given they have Kroos and Schweinsteiger. They have been two of the best midfielders in the world this season.
Frank Lampard
This is one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with a great history, and it always has been. To reach the final and to play in your own stadium is something really amazing and a dream come true for many people within the club.

Losing 5–2 hurts a lot. I can’t explain that performance. We’re frustrated now, but as of Monday our focus is on the Champions League final.
