Following his Bundesliga exploits this season,Manchester United are reportedly mounting a summer approach to sign Bayern Munich midfielder, Toni Kroos.

The German international has started in 32 of his 33 appearances for the club this season, scoring on four occasions and recording 13 assists in the process.

Joachim Löw has paid corresponding attention to the youngster’s efforts also, handing the starlet his senior international debut in 2010, after which he has gone on to rack up an impressive 24 appearances for the German national side.

The 22 year-old is contracted at the Allianz Arena until 2015 but that won’t be expected to deter Manchester United too much, given their apparent need for a creative midfielder.

Sir Alex Ferguson was happy to welcome Tom Cleverley back into the Red Devil fold earlier this month after a lengthy period on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

However, midfield reinforcements are still thought to be necessary at Old Trafford.

Paul Scholes was coerced out of retirement by Ferguson earlier this season but it’s unknown whether or not the midfield maestro will play on again next campaign.

Even if the playmaker was to stay on with the English giants for a further year, his age makes him only a temporary solution along with Ryan Giggs who is in a similar situation.

Several United players have been criticised for failing to play at the usual standard expected of Manchester United, meaning a summer bid for Kroos could be viable.

The youngster has become a key component in Jupp Heynckes’ Bayern Munich side but should the right offer come in, the creative talisman may be tempted by a move to the English top flight.

United will need to spend over £20m if they want to land Kroos’ signature, but given last summer’s expenditure and the club’s increasing profits, they may decide to splash the cash once again before Financial Fair Play makes too much of an impact.
